Hope & Healing: The Art & Poetics of Restorative Justice (Diocese)

What: Celebrate National Restorative Justice Week with an art exhibition and silent auction on Nov. 17 featuring art and poetry from our incarcerated friends. Through original art and poetry, artists will reflect on hope and healing after crime/harm in a restorative justice context.

When: Sunday, Nov. 17, 11 AM – 4 PM

Where: Cathedral Square Center

Restorative justice seeks to repair harm through encounters that model Jesus’ reconciling way. These practices seek restoration to the extent possible for all stakeholders. Restorative practices work to hold people accountable while protecting society, healing harm, and helping to rehabilitate those who violate the law. It is a way of understanding crime and wrongdoing in terms of the people and relationships impacted, rather than simply a law or rule that was broken.

“As I tried to live a more charitable life, my own shortcomings became even more obvious. Not only did I need to forgive; I needed forgiveness. Forgiveness became less of a commandment I was trying to follow and more of a lifestyle.”
