New Mass Propers for Lent

The beginning of each Lenten season comes with it a change in tone in our Liturgies. The place where this is most apparent is in the music. Starting on Ash Wednesday, we will be using different Mass Propers, and I wanted all of us to have a chance to hear them, and be familiar with them, so that we can all join in the sung prayer of the Church.

This Mass Setting is called Belmont Mass, and is written by Christopher Walker. It is chant centered but has a beautiful and singable melody. Take a moment to pray along with this setting and I look forward to singing it with you at Mass.

“Be sober and vigilant. Your opponent the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, steadfast in faith, knowing that your fellow believers throughout the world undergo the same sufferings.”
